This world lost a beautiful soul when Zelma Lea (Chatterton) Harless passed peacefully on September 4, 2022, in Summit, Arkansas, at the age of 66. Born January 24, 1956, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Munn and Marie Chatterton, Zelma grew up in California but relocated to Arkansas when her father retired from the military. She received her diploma from Mountain Home High School in 1974 and was joined in marriage to Albert Harless on September 22, 1980.
A familiar face for many years at the Village Wheel restaurant, Town & Country Grocery Store and Micro Plastics, Zelma was always one to light up a room. Her laugh was contagious and she was always quick with a comeback or a quick-witted attitude adjustment when the situation called for it.
Zelma loved spending time outdoors with her family, whether camping, spending a day at the lake or fishing on the White River. On more than one occasion, Zelma had to jump into action to show an unsuspecting tourist the proper way to back a boat into the water.
Among the many things that Zelma’s family loved most about her is the fact that she loved unconditionally and gave without expectation. Zelma especially enjoyed being Granny to her 12 grandchildren.
Zelma is survived by her husband, Albert Harless; three daughters, Christel (Blake) Benson of Pittsburg, Kansas, Chelsea (Michael) Dowell of Flippin, Arkansas and Sarah (Michael) Paxton of Summit, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren, Chloé, Braden, Hannah, Brooke, Emmery , Amiee, Mason, Albert, Bobbi, Angel, James and Ciera; her sister, Ann Treat of Mountain Home, Arkansas and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Chatterton, and her sister, Patricia (Dee) Acton.
A celebration of life service will be held in the near future.
