It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Thomas E. January Jr., fondly known as Punkie, on March 8th, 2023, at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, MO. Born on December 13th, 1958, in Natchez, MS, Tommy spent most of his life in Louisiana, but resided in Peel, AR at the time of his passing.
Tommy was a man of many talents and wore several hats throughout his life. He was a farmer, a heavy equipment operator, a prison guard, and a special deputy, and he also had a passion for raising birds. Although he was an avid hunter in his younger days, he gave it up to appreciate and capture the beauty of wildlife through his lens. In his later years, you could often find him fishing on the banks of the White River, immersing himself in the great outdoors.
Tommy is survived by his beloved wife Kristie Hammett January, his daughters Juanita January and Tommy Lynn January, his stepchildren Brandon Welch and Kacie (Marshal) Woods, and his grandchildren Dakota January, Skyler Hamilton, Stormi Hamilton, Sable Welch, Syran Welch, and Hunter Lee Atkins. He also leaves behind many extended family members and cherished friends.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas E. January Sr. and Aletha Simpson January.
A celebration of Tommy's life will be held on Saturday, March 18th, 2023, at Lighthouse For Jesus Tabernacle in Yellville, AR. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved little dog Boo Boop.
Tommy January will always be remembered for his unwavering love for nature, his zest for life, and his kind heart that touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
