Montella Rose Edgmon, age 86, passed away August 23, 2020 at home at Hilltop surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Owen Lee Edgmon.
Montella was born September 3, 1933 in Picher Oklahoma to Robert Houston and Bessie Loretta Ramsey Vandiver, A few years after her birth mother passed away, Montella gained a new mother, Maybelle Stapleton Vandiver.
Montella graduated high school in Salinas, CA. As a single mother, she held a job and earned her AAS at Riverside Community College and her Registered Nurse Degree through Pomona State Hospital, where she worked 5 years before moving to Harrison and working the remainder of her career at Boone County Hospital in the Coronary Care Unit. Soon after employment at the Boone County Hospital, Montella was sent to Houston and Chicago for additional training in Cardiac Care and Intensive Care and was made the night shift supervisor in the hospital's then new and state-of-the-art Coronary Care Unit. Montella was well respected in her profession.
Montella enjoyed attending church at Hilltop Church of Christ. She loved her community at Hilltop and loved living on her farm on top of Gaither Mountain for 52 years. She loved viewing the wildlife and scenery of the Ozarks. Throughout her life she enjoyed being with people and especially enjoyed being with family. Her grandkids were the highlight of her life. Montella was a caretaker at heart and always helped those who were in need. She loved to travel, and to read books, including mysteries, romance and especially books by her favorite author Louis L'Amour.
Montella is survived by her sister: Joyce Rogers, sons Robert Vance (Connie) Cutburth and Randy (Hazel) Cutburth and daughter, Sandi Shotwell DeMent; Grandchildren: Tina (Stacy) Stanphill, Emma Ajakaiye, Edward Cutburth and Shawn Cutburth, John (Karen) Jech,Randi Cutburth, Anthony (Jessica) DeMent, Amelia (Steven) Dulock, Anna (Daniel) Gleaton and Megan (Trey) Shero; 24 Great-Grandchildren, one Great-Great Grandchild and Niece: Pam McBroom.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, August 29th at 10:30 am outside at Hilltop Church of Christ in the 7800 block of Hilltop Road. Please bring folding chair. In case of rain, services will be moved to the Hilltop Community Building. John Deakins will officiate.
