Mary Mullen Obituary

Mary Alice Mullen passed away at age 80 on March 17, 2025, in Harrison, Arkansas.  Mary was born on July 23, 1944, at her home in Springville, PA to Claude Bush and Blanche Benjamin Bush.

Mary married her late husband, Alfred Mullen, on August 24, 1969. Al served in the Navy, which allowed Mary to see many parts of the world including Iceland - where her oldest son Bobby was born - and Hawaii - where her second son Gary was born.  Al and Mary’s first meeting was a love at first sight situation that was less than 3 months long before they got married. After they were both fully retired, they loved traveling together, which included being frequent participants to Naval ship reunions  across the country. After Al’s passing in 2024, Mary frequently spoke to him in her prayers while also entertaining herself by watching as many Hallmark-type movies as possible, as they reminded her of her time with her beloved Alfred.

Mary was passionate about her work with children as a speech pathologist. She worked in many parts of the country, with her last position being with the Tennessee Early Intervention System out of the University of Memphis (the college she obtained her Master’s degree), where she made many lifelong friends. Mary was also very involved in her church, most notably at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Hopewell, TN and at Diamond City Methodist Church in Diamond City, AR. She cared deeply for her church families and was always willing to support functions at her church.

Mary is survived by her sons Bobby, Gary (Megan), Donald (Linda), and her grandchildren Amanda (Waylon), Alecia (Blake), Ryne, and Logan. She is also survived by her brothers Clark (Barbara), Alan, Eugene (Nancy) and her sisters Jo Ann and Elneda (Matt).  She was preceded in passing by her husband Al, her mother Blanche, her father Claude, her sister Marguerite (Bo), her sister-in-law Lauren, her sister-in-law Barbara, and her brother-in-law Richard. Mary is also survived by her nieces and nephews Gretchen (Dan), Clark (Mattia), Fred, Charlie, Kimm, Ben, Jeremy, and Ian. She also leaves behind great nieces and nephews Maura (Chris), Taylor (Jordan), Kelley, Clark, Nick, Riley, Brooke, Alan, and Alex. She is also survived by great great nieces and nephews Danny, Savannah, Alexia, and Jayden.

Mary’s legacy will always be carried on in our hearts and she will be forever missed by her family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday March 21, 2025, at 2pm at Diamond City Methodist Church in Diamond City, AR. She will be laid to rest with her husband Al in Fort Gibson Cemetery in Oklahoma on Monday March 24, 2025, at 2:30pm.
