Larry Don York Sr., 75, of Western Grove, Arkansas, passed away on August 1, 2023, at Cox Health in Branson, Missouri with his family by his side. He was born on March 19, 1948, in Roswell, New Mexico, the son of Emmett Wallace and Pearl Elizabeth (Hyman) York.
His family moved from Roswell, New Mexico to Artesia, New Mexico in 1949, when he was eight months old. He grew up there and completed Artesia High School.
Larry started his electrical career in 1967 and retired in 2011 as an electrical engineering specialist. He worked in the electrical field for 44 years. Larry was the best electrical lineman, foreman and trainer. His job took him and his family to many places included New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Kansas and ending his career in Arkansas.
He married the love of his life, Phyllis Swift, on June 19, 1969. They had two wonderful sons, Larry Don York Jr., and Brandon Daniel York. Larry loved his family unconditionally; it gave him great pleasure to spend time with his grandkids and give them cash when they were together.
Larry loved horses, doing metal and woodwork. One of his greatest accomplishments was building the family a beautiful log home. There was nothing he could not build or make with his hands. Larry and Phyllis spent many hours driving the scenic roads of the Ozarks, and a Sunday drive was not complete without stopping and picking up “tator babies and Dr. Pepper’s” along the way. He was a true believer in God.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents and five sisters: Rosa Lewis, Jewel Jimenez, Viginia Hood, Sylvia Shan, Reba Wooldridge, and an infant brother Carroll Eugene York.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his two sons Larry Don York Jr. (Rhonda) and Brandon Daniel York (Gloria). Grandchildren: Chyenne Ruth Renee, Logan Wallace York, Melanie Pumphrey and Braxton Monroe and one great grandchild, Amelia Dawn Ameen . Also, his two sisters, Joyce Harless and Glenda Dunn.
Funeral services will be on August 7, 2023, at the Western Grove Cemetery inside the chapel at 2:00 pm. Officiating the ceremony are Pastor Paul Holder and Assistant Pastor Mike Baker. Pallbearers are Brandon York, Larry Don York, Logan York, Cheyenne York, Chase Stuart and Chris Stuart. Honorary Pallbearer is David West. Burial will follow.
