Joseph Brooks Obituary

Joseph Edward Brooks  (known to all as “Joe”) 67 of St. Joe, Arkansas passed away peacefully Friday November 27, 2020 after a lengthy battle with lung disease.

Joe was born in Yazoo City, MS on October 12, 1953, one of four sons born to Gus Willard Brooks and Louise (Franklin) Brooks Reeves.

Joe was a welder by trade and worked construction and on the pipeline for many years.  He moved to Arkansas in the early 90’s where he welded pipe fence and corrals for the locals and became known as “Joe the welder”.  There just wasn’t much Joe couldn’t do or fix.  In the late 90’s, Joe began working in excavation with his buddy Chester - they became more like brothers than friends.  Joe retired about 5 yrs. ago when his health wouldn’t allow it anymore.

He was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan and a diehard New Orleans Saints fan. On any given Sunday he would be watching a Saints game and always had a Cardinals game on.  He even had two TV’s as not to miss one.

He was dedicated to his dogs, birds and gardening.  Joe and Bear (his dog) would even sing to each other.  Joe had a love for nature and found peace and calmness when working in his garden.  Whether it was fruits and vegetables or flowers, Joe had a green thumb and could make anything beautiful.  He loved feeding and watching the birds and squirrels and of course the Cardinal was his favorite bird.

Years ago, Joe reconnected with his daughter Heather and they found they had many things in common. They shared a love for the Saints, animals, cooking and gardening.  When Joe talked about his daughter or the grandchildren, his eyes lit up with joy.  He loved nothing better than to show new pictures of them to all his friends.

Joe was a sweet, kindhearted man and a wonderful friend to all he met.  Joe left his mark in this world and will be missed by so many and forever loved.

He is survived by his daughter, Heather Brooks Owens of Ocean Springs, MS; his son, Joseph Edward Brooks Jr. of Holly Bluff, MS; 4 grandchildren, Kyle A. Graves and Anna Kealey Graves of Ocean Springs MS and 2 grandsons of Holly Bluff, MS. He leaves behind his best friend Chester Lewis and wife Dana of St. Joe; Bear( his dog) and a host of other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George Willard Brooks, Lee “David” Brooks and Wallace “Newton” Brooks, his stepfather Hugh H. Reeves “Papaw”- whom he loved dearly.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held outside at the home of Chester and Dana Lewis, 102 Cottage Lane, St. Joe, AR on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.
