Jerry Mefford Obituary

Jerry Wayne Mefford, age 78, went to his heavenly home, Friday, September 30, 2022. Jerry was born August 1, 1944, in Atkins, AR.

He was preceded in death by his father, Columbus (Fate) Mefford, his mother, Mabel Crow Mefford, his sisters, Rosie Weeks, Billie Jean Braswell, and Shirley Buie, and one brother JA Mefford.

leaves behind his beloved wife Judy Hall-Mefford, a son Jeremy and wife Christie Mefford, two daughters Cherie and husband Travis Conner, and Michelle Bear. Grandchildren, Jonathan, Elisha, Kira, Lily, Gentry, and Caden and one great granddaughter Callan. One sister Louise Ashcraft.

Jerry attended University of Arkansas Monticello and pastored four churches over 38 years as a Missionary Baptist Minister. Jerry was also in the furniture business most of his life. He always had a great smile, loved people, and loved to travel.  Jerry was passionate about gardening and loved to bless others with its bounty as well as give gardening advice.

And last but not least, Jerry’s life was a testimony of overcoming great, personal difficulties and the Goodness of God. One of his favorite things to do was to tape a mustard seed to his business cards and hand them out. This always led to sharing the Gospel and the need for a personal relationship with Jesus. Every time we went into a restaurant Jerry always asked what our servers name was and if they knew Jesus. He was always “planting” that “seed” and sometimes even got to see the harvest!

Yes, Jerry will be greatly missed, as well as his laugh, his smile, and his love for Jesus. But his legacy will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him.

Jerry’s celebration of Life will be in Harrison at the pavilion at the First Baptist Church on Highway 7 South Saturday, October 8, 2022, 11am-3pm. Pastor Ken Rensink will preside. Food will be served.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a gift donation in Jerry’s name to be made to the Jubilee Worship Center Vision Fund.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Andy Coble, Dr. Collins, Jeremy Mefford, Travis Conner, Rick Eccles, Don Ford, Jerry Molewyk, Bill Hoy, and grandsons, Jonathan, Elisha, Gentry, and Caden.
