Jerry Elwin Edwards, 76, of Bergman, loving husband, father, “Papa,” “Poppy”, and brother passed away on the evening of August 16th at Hospice of the Hills in Harrison surrounded by loved ones. Jerry was born on June 12th, 1947, to Elwin and Pearl Edwards.
Jerry was quite adventurous and when reminiscing about his early years, you will often hear of his mischievous behavior coupled with laughter and a shaking head, always prompted by one heck of a story with memories that will never fade. After graduating high school, Jerry worked as a brick-and-block mason, a lineman at Entergy, and quality control at Claridge. In addition to masonry, there wasn’t a trade or skill that he couldn’t master, often offering and using his talents when someone needed a helping hand.
In 1981, Jerry married Jolene, the love of his life. Those who knew him know that his love for her ran deep; often expressing his love by detailing her inner and outer beauty. Jerry fiercely loved Jolene, his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. He was never short of witty and wise life advice, considered all seasons to be “hunting season”, was the best human Barbie doll to his granddaughters, and promised that there was always room on Pa’s lap. When he wasn’t with his family, Jerry was spending time at his home away from home at Lamartine Deer Camp.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Elwin and Pearl (Wade) Edwards, son, Jerry Lee Edwards, daughter, Vonna Edwards, and brothers, Jackie Edwards and Dr. Joe Edwards.
He is survived by his wife, Jolene Edwards; daughters, Glynna (Ken) Allen, Jade Edwards, and Karsen Edwards; grandchildren, Danielle (Chris) Freeman of Rogers, AR, and Luke (Katie) Allen; great-grandchildren, Caden Miller, Remington Allen, and Ellison Allen; brother, Jimmy (Mary) Edwards; sisters, Judy (Clay) Griffin of Angola, IN, Jana (Rex) Kindall and Joyce Rose of Harrison, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as numerous friends that will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 at First Christian Church in Harrison on Saturday, August 19. Jerry’s graveside service will be Sunday, August 20, at 2:00 at the White Oak Cemetery in Bergman, officiated by Brother Charles Edwards and Brother Billy Edgar. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to Hospice of the Hills in Harrison.
