James Newsom, age 73, of Harrison Arkansas won his battle with ALS and went to see his Savior on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 surrounded by family and loved ones. Jay, born in Shawnee, Ok on November 21, 1949, grew up in Cotton Center, TX on the family cotton farm. A student of Texas Tech and a graduate of Trinity Bible School, Jay was a gifted musician, minister, private school founder, and the pioneer of several churches. He was adored by family and a blessing in the communities he lived.
Jay was predeceased in death by his father, J.D. Newsom, mother, Billy Joe Newsom, and late wife Mary Newsom. Those left to cherish his memory are: Wife Jeanine Newsom and household of Harrison, Arkansas, Brother Billy Newsom and wife Eva of Fairfield, Texas, Sister Denise Lory and husband Keith of Hideaway, Texas, Son-Jay Newsom and wife Theresa of Johnstown, Colorado, Daughter-Amy Sawyer and husband Matt of Seattle, Washington, Daughter-Joy Coats and husband Jon of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Daughter-Ann Sherwood and husband Brett of Greenfield, Massachusetts, Grandchildren Raven Newsom, Conner Johnson, Isabella Trujillo-Newsom, JD and Abby Coats, Slate Sawyer, and Foster Sherwood.
For those wishing to celebrate the life of Jay Newsom, the family invites you to join in celebrating his life at Restoration Life Fellowship, 8113 Highway 392 in Batavia, Arkansas on Tuesday, June 20th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Hills in Harrison Arkansas in honor of the excellent care provided.
