Doris Hicks Obituary

Doris Marie Hicks, age 90, of Lead Hill, Arkansas, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. She was born on November 2, 1935, in Sivells Bend, Texas, to Thelma Rasure and Dewey Hudson. Growing up throughout Texas, Doris learned strength, resilience, and the importance of family. As the oldest of seven children, she often said she always had a best friend nearby.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Doris embodied the classic homemaker with her Jackie O suit skirts, pillbox hats, and little white gloves. She believed deeply in the power of positive thinking, and when she wished for a baby girl, she was blessed with triplet daughters all at once. Doris devoted herself to caring for her family while planning parties, sewing clothes and costumes, keeping a warm home, and raising children with love and creativity.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, painting, and reading. Later in life, Doris began working for Continental Airlines, where she eventually retired. Her career gave her the opportunity to travel the world and experience new adventures.

Doris was never afraid to try something new, whether it was painting, moving to Arkansas to start a goat farm, or even spending a memorable half hour snowboarding. Her home was always open, her heart always generous, and her spirit full of warmth and kindness. She especially loved planning themed parties with her sisters and friends from church. Yet her favorite moments were the quiet ones spent with a cup of coffee overlooking what she lovingly called her “peaceful valley.” Over the years, that view changed from goats to a couple of horses, to grandchildren and great-grandchildren running joyfully through the fields. In the end, it remained the peaceful place where she sang to the birds, watched the deer, and shared life with her loving husband.

Doris held many roles throughout her life — event coordinator, seamstress, teacher, chauffeur, and babysitter — but the titles she treasured most were daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Silvia Hicks; her sons, Danny Earl Hicks and Richard Hicks; her stepson, Steven Hicks; her sister, Billy Kay Hassel; her brother, Larry Hudson; and her parents.

Doris is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jerald Hicks; her loving triplet daughters, Christina Hicks, Melissa Carr, and Kimberly Rose; her daughter-in-law, Rhonda Hicks; her step-daughters, Angela Kidwell, Darcy (Scott)Warner, and Kimberly Hicks; She is also survived by her siblings, Thelma Mae Willoughby, Doug Hudson, Mary Lou Flynn and husband Terry, and Judy Thompson.

She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Michael Howard Hicks, Jason Hicks, Jessica Rourke and husband Vincent Liquori, Logan Carr, Quinlynne Carr, Sergnii Rose, Ryan Rose, Meaghan Rose, Morgan Rose, Reaghan Rose, Rowan Rose, Christina Purvis, Emily Bailey, Ellen Kidwell, and Michael Hicks-Takes; along with numerous great-grandchildren including Jaxon Howard, Casey and Mason Cardenas, Domenic and Giovanni Liquori, Gabriel Bailey, Autumn Bailey, Michael Bailey, Grayson Kidwell-Bendrelli and June Purvis.

Doris Marie Hicks will be remembered for her quiet strength, adventurous spirit, unwavering love for family, and the warmth she brought to everyone around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
